An understated development of 5 dwellings situated in the outskirts of Great Ouseburn, on the north-western side of York.
Single storey construction was necessitated by planning requirements to have minimal visual intrusion above existing hedge lines. As such, careful consideration was given to internal layouts to ensure best utilisation was made of the roof space available, to create additional habitable rooms.
The scheme incorporates various SuDS features, with primary surface water attenuation managed through the use of a swale, which was combined with a gravel trench soakaway. This avoids the need for surface water discharge to the combined sewers in the area and provides more sustainable management of extreme storm events.
