Beech Hill

  • Beech Hill School
  • Halifax
  • £4m

The original 1960's primary school was built over former terrace properties and an infilled quarry.

Proposals were prepared for the school to be extended directly adjacent the former quarry face.

These geological issues (a deep infilled quarry from the 1800’s) and topographical issues (45′ slopes) created interesting foundation Engineering problems to solve all whilst maintaining a full working school for the pupils.

A further extension onto the first extension was completed as a phase 2. This was facilitated by using connection details built into the phase 1 construction meaning site works progressed with minimal disruption to the adjoining in use classrooms.
