The Perry Barr auction facility looked to reclaim a derelict brownfield site positioned directly adjacent the M6 to become the clients flagship Midlands auction centre.

Engineering challenges ranged from building over 10m of historic fill to draining the expanse of concrete and macadam service yards but limited to the restricted discharge rates set by Planners. Careful design of the external levels to create specific zones for managed surface water flooding in extreme rainfall events significantly reduced the scale of below ground attenuation structures with big cost savings. The portal framed main building which was open to three sides had to be designed to resist wind uplift, rather like holding down an umbrella in a storm!
