Dudleys chosen to help transform The Making Rooms in Blackburn

Dudleys Consulting Engineers are proud to have been a part of the project with KPP Architects, working alongside Blackburn with Darwen Council to transform this much‑loved creative hub into a larger, more accessible and future‑focused space for makers, learners and innovators across the region.

Transformation works are now underway at The Making Rooms in Blackburn, where the project team is converting the existing basement from storage into a suite of fabrication labs and makerspaces. This significant upgrade will expand the building’s creative and educational offer, providing specialist facilities for hands‑on learning, digital fabrication, and community innovation. The works also include forming new basement access from Exchange Street, with the main entrance being opened up to welcome visitors more directly into the building.

Up on the roof, a brand‑new eco‑lab will soon take shape. This additional storey will support sustainability‑led projects and outdoor learning through the provision of new workshop space designed to inspire alongside WC facilities and an outdoor terrace.

Delivered by Rosslee Construction for Blackburn with Darwen Council, on behalf of The Making Rooms, the development marks an important investment in local creativity and skills. Construction is progressing on site, with the project scheduled for completion and handover in Autumn 2026.
