Malmaison Hotel, York

The existing 6 storey concrete framed building is being completely renovated with extensive modifications to the concrete core of the building. A new steel framed rooftop ‘Sky-Bar’ and canopy has been constructed predominantly glazed to maximise views of the city whilst extension and alterations to ground and former basement car park provide a gym and conferencing facilities.

The site is surrounded by busy roads on two sides, existing buildings to the remaining sides, resulting in careful planning and temporary works coordination to ensure works are undertaken in a sequenced, orderly manner. A ‘stones through’ from the city walls required careful consideration of the aesthetics and archaeological impacts of the scheme from concept stage.
