Helping with track maintenance at Howarth Station

The Dudleys Consulting Engineers team spent a Friday helping with some manual labour on site. Safe to say that we very quickly realised our delicate hands are far more suited to the office environment!

We were working with KWVR Friends and spent a fascinating day learning about track maintenance at Haworth Station. They had recently undertaken some maintenance on the line immediately adjacent to the station and our task was to assist in re-levelling a section of track. This involved jacking up the lines (to level) and then re-compacting ballast beneath sleepers.

My next visit will come with a whole new appreciation for the volunteer team that keeps these fantastic heritage assets alive and sure the kids will love hearing all about my small contribution!
