Headingley Stadium is one of the most recognisable grounds in world cricket. We were brought following a recommendation from another major sports venue, Elland Road Stadium. We are trusted to help inspect and protect a stadium that sees thousands of fans pass through its gates every season.
Our work began within the East Stand, home to hospitality spaces, training facilities and hotel accommodation beneath the terraces. Years of exposure to the Yorkshire weather had allowed water to work its way into parts of the structure, creating issues that needed addressing before they became bigger problems. Through detailed inspections and practical engineering solutions, we helped the club identify what needed attention, prevent further deterioration and keep the stadium safe, operational and match-ready for the seasons ahead.
Following the East Stand works, Dudleys continued structural reviews across other areas of Headingley Stadium, including the North Stand, spectator facilities and surrounding circulation areas. Our work covered external cladding, terraces, seating structures, circulation routes and supporting steelwork throughout the ground, helping Yorkshire County Cricket Club identify where maintenance and upgrades were needed to keep the venue operating efficiently and prepared for the demands of a busy cricket season.
As one of the country’s most historic cricket venues, the stadium is constantly evolving behind the scenes. Hospitality spaces are upgraded, facilities are adapted and infrastructure is continually maintained to meet the expectations of modern sport. Alongside annual inspections required under the Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds (Green Guide), we also carry out detailed long-term structural assessments to help ensure the stadium continues to provide a safe and welcoming environment for supporters, players and visitors alike.

We have also undertaken annual structural inspections across the North, South, East and West Stands, reviewing terraces, roofs, handrails, circulation areas and external structures. These inspections support the club’s ongoing maintenance planning and certification requirements, helping ensure the stadium remains safe for supporters, staff and visitors.

Dudleys have been supporting Headingley Stadium for around two years, providing ongoing structural inspections and engineering support across several areas of the ground. The relationship first came through recommendations from other major sports venues, with Yorkshire County Cricket Club looking for a practical engineering team that understood the realities of working within a live stadium environment.
One of the main issues identified during the early inspections was ongoing water ingress within parts of the East Stand. Over time, exposure to the elements had started affecting areas of the structure and surrounding building fabric. Our role was to help identify where deterioration was occurring, understand the condition of the steelwork and provide practical maintenance recommendations before the problems developed into something more significant.
All inspections were carried out in accordance with the Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds (Green Guide), alongside relevant British Standards and structural engineering best practice. These inspections help support the club’s ongoing safety certification requirements while ensuring the stadium remains suitable for players, supporters, staff and visitors throughout the cricket season.
Our inspections covered multiple areas throughout the stadium, including the East Stand, North Stand and wider spectator facilities. Works included reviewing steelwork, terraces, circulation routes, cladding systems, seating structures and public access areas, helping build a clear picture of how the stadium was performing and where future maintenance may be needed.
Major sports venues are required to undertake annual inspections as part of their ongoing safety obligations. Alongside these yearly reviews, more detailed structural assessments are typically carried out every six to ten years to look more closely at the long-term condition of the stadium and how it has evolved through years of continuous use, upgrades and operational changes.
